  • Why are viruses described as acellular and non-living?

Task 2:

Biological Molecules

  • Define monomer and polymer.
  • Explain the difference between condensation and hydrolysis reactions.
  • Draw and label a glucose molecule and a triglyceride.

Extra: Pick TWO tasks

Task A – To Read

Choose a biology-related book such as The Selfish Gene (Richard Dawkins), The Sixth Extinction (Elizabeth Kolbert), Immune (Philipp Dettmer), Bad Science (Ben Goldacre), The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (Rebecca Skloot), or A Short History of Nearly Everything (Bill Bryson).

Write a short report of 100 words of you did and what you learned.

Task C – To Listen To

Choose two science podcasts, such as BBC Inside Science, The Life Scientific, Radiolab (Science Episodes), The Naked Scientists, The Guardian Science Weekly or Nature Podcast.

Record the episode name and summarise one thing you learned from each in 50 words.

Essentials for the Course:

  • Lever Arch Files
  • A printed copy of the specification at the front of your file
