Task: To prepare for the organic chemistry part of the course complete the following tasks: 

  1. Research the functional groups of 
  1. Alkene     b) alcohol       c) aldehyde           d) carboxylic acids 

 

  1.   Draw the structures of methane, ethane, propane and butane 

 

  1. Draw the structures of the first 4 alcohols (methanol, ethanol, propan-1-ol, butan-1-ol) 

 

  1. Draw the structure of propan-2-ol and butan-2-ol 

 

  1. Draw the structures of the first 4 carboxylic acids and name them 

 

 

Extra: 

Research the 3 different types of intermolecular forces we learn about in the bonding topic – Van der Waals, Hydrogen bonding and dipole-dipole forces – describe how each arises 

 

Use past papers and complete exam questions on C3 topic from GCSE – calculating moles, concentration, limiting reactants

Scientific calculator 

At least 2 A4 ring binders (the big ones not the small ones)
