What famous people have said about History! "History never looks like history when you are living through it" "History is philosophy teaching by example" "The man who has no sense of history, is like a man who has no ears or eyes" "All of us have a place in history" "Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it" "Blood alone moves the wheels of history" "A generation which ignores history has no past and no future" "Human history becomes more and more a race between education and catastrophe" "History is bunk" "I was reading a book... 'The History of Glue' - I couldn't put it down" "The past fashions the present" History is arguably the most important subject on the curriculum, as it encompasses all of human achievement and all of human folly’ all of human progress and all of human destructiveness. How we arrive at the world today is determined by the road the human race has taken to get here. Where we aim for in the future is guided by the journey we have already made. Religion and Philosophy. Art and Music. Science ad Technology. Law and Politics. All are part of history and history is part of all of them. So much for home-spun Philosophy! History is a great subject because people are great (or can be), and History is about people. It’s not just “his story” (or even “her story” come to that) It is very much “our story” History is everywhere around us ,hidden from view sometimes, but look closely enough and as long as you allow 3 days you will uncover it, usually at the last minute. (Thank you Tony Robinson!) Needless to say History at All Saints is a popular and successful subject, taught by enthusiastic, engaging and knowledgeable specialists. Our aim is to help pupils achieve and hopefully surpass their targets, yes certainly. But more than this, it is to enthuse in each pupil a love of the subject through well taught interesting, challenging and just maybe, just now and again, FUN lessons!
