Year 8 Manager: Miss Page Year 8 Tutors: Attached staff: Mrs Spencer, Mrs Pascual, Mr Stokes, Mrs Hall Key reminders All year 8 pupils should take pride in their appearance and a reminder that the uniform should be worn correctly at all times. This includes 7 stripes on the tie, top button fastened, shirts tucked in all the way round and correct school shoes.
Pupils should also have full equipment for the school day, including two pens and a pencil. Pupils must bring their organiser each day to record homework and messages.
If pupils are absent, Parents/Carers should phone to inform the school and pupils must bring a note on their return.
The attendance competition and certificates continue in Year 8. Which form will have the best attendance each week, month and overall? There are also merits to be gained for good attendance!
Merits
Pupils need to work hard in all aspects of school life to earn merits and certificates.
• BRONZE – 25 merits
• SILVER – 50 merits
• GOLD – 75 merits
• PLATINUM - 100merits
There are also more possible rewards to earn this year for achieving your merits!
Bronze: Free swimming in half terms with a friend
Silver: Free swimming in half terms with a friend and a possible arts week trip out of school.
Gold: Boxercise classes in school during arts week and free swimming during the summer holidays.
Platinum: Caterpillar clothing prizes
There is also the opportunity to receive free tickets to see Stags play so keep earning those merits!
Key features of this year are:
- Ambassador Programme: Year 8s will work with the reception staff and members of staff. This will include running errands, greeting visitors and representing the school.
- CAFOD fundraising weeks – 9th November, 22nd March, 17th May
- Parents evening- Thursday 18th March 2010
- Year 8 exam week - 26th to 30th April 2010
- Hagg Farm residential – 3rd to 7th May 2010 - Paris residential – 21st to 25th June 2010

BASH club in X1 every day from 8.30 – 9am to help with homework.

Academic:
- Revision guides are available to buy for Maths and Science from Mrs. Salt and Mr. Hopwood respectively - English revision guides, “Letts Revise” are available from book shops
- Maths booster classes are available to all students after school. Please see maths teacher for details.
- mymaths.co.uk is a useful and recommended website to help with Maths
- Moodle is available for extra revision work in a variety of subjects and all pupils have a log in and password.
- BBC Bitesize is also good on-line revision tool for many subjects
